Onward! A Short History of the Future of the Web in Higher Education

Abstract
Trying to understand the digital space in higher education can sometimes seem like you’re building the car while driving it. And, well, it is—it’s fast-moving, with twists and turns, and occasionally you may feel a little bit out of control. So let’s buckle in and get a grip on where the web is going and why it matters. In this engaging and informative talk, Georgy will review the current landscape (and how we got here) while painting a vivid portrait of trends and emerging best practices for digital success—and discussing how to apply them in the unique context of higher ed. You will come away with a better understanding how to make the web work for you and the communications objectives of your institution.

Bio
Georgy Cohen has spent nearly 20 years wrangling digital content for universities, newspapers, and a host of other organizations. She is director of digital strategy at OHO Interactive, a full-service digital agency based in the Boston area. Georgy previously worked at Tufts University and Suffolk University, in addition to running her own independent consultancy to higher education. She speaks frequently at conferences, including HighEdWeb, ContentEd (UK), and Confab. Georgy's background is in journalism, including a three-year stint working in the fast-paced online newsroom of The Boston Globe.
